How do I price this St Gaudens?

1907 MS-63 (PCGS) St. Gaudens. (PCGS #9141)

PCGS price guide has it slightly over $2,000 (used to be way higher), NumisMedia has it at $2160.

I've been trying to sell this thing for an even 2k now for weeks with no success - both here and on Craigslist in a major metro area.

What I'm trying to figure out is, are these two price guides real world/realistic/reasonable, or do they misrepresent what coins like this go for in the real world?

Invest in both the Grey and Blue Sheet publications.

Is Grey for dealers and Blue for collector to collector?

One word CHEAPER. But frankly unless you need the money really bad I'd keep it for a short time, perhaps a year.

I'm not going to subscribe to a newsletter so I can price one coin. I can certainly call a dealer who does subscribe and ask them what the price is, but, that's kind of pointless if I don't understand what price these sheets are representing - "retail" or "dealer" level.

I did go to the site but the answer didn't seem apparent.

That's what I'm trying to understand, if those two values are generally over what the market will realistically bring. I guess you're saying they are?

I don't like numi stuff at all. :) It's a leftover from the business and I've been trying to get rid of it.

I normally don't spoon feed but here goes. Grey is raw. Blue is slabbed. Both report dealer bid/ask action. I imagine most "legitimate" dealers pay up in order to be "up to date".

No.

For what its worth - I take the prices from PCGS or NCG as a "retail" price........which no one pays.

More reasonable is to knock 15-20%

Hope it helps!

Cheers!

Re: How do I price this St Gaudens?

It's the 9141 (no motto). $2040 at PCGS

Hey Skeptic - here is your info...

3/19/10 Bluesheet shows 1907 $20 St Gaudens PCGS MS-63 at $1535 with no change from prior week

3/26/10 Greysheet shows $20 St Gaudens common type coin raw in MS-63 at bid $1410, ask $1460

Re: How do I price this St Gaudens?

Thanks. Aren't there two varieties of 1907? This is a PCGS #9141 (#9140 seems to be cheaper)

That is correct...the 1907 has the high relief variety which is $18575 in PCGS MS-63 on the bluesheet, and ($22500 bid/$23200 ask) raw on the 3/26/10 greysheet. The greysheet shows an increase from the prior week but it's only +$600 on both so it seems a little odd that PCGS certified is showing a lower bid than a raw type coin.

Re: How do I price this St Gaudens?

I'm talking about Type 2, No Motto, PCGS #9140. I'm a little confused because this coin is a 9141, but I don't know the difference.

start it on ebay at $1 with no reserve. one week auction. provide a good picture.

you will find out how much it is worth.

As far as I know, all 1907's have no motto on them and have these categories:
*ultra high relief with plain edge
*ultra high relief with lettered edge
*high relief w/roman numerals and wire rim
*high relief w/roman numerals and flat rim
*regular strike with arabic numerals

9140 seems to be the designation for the coin type, where 9141 is the designation for this specific year/mintmark.

For future refrence you can go to www.greysheet.com and buy 1 issue of any greysheet for $4.
